How to Join SSS
Students are selected to join SSS after completing an application and an interview. About half of Northwestern State's students qualify for SSS; the program selects about 100 new students each year. Students must meet at least one, and preferrably two of the following requirements for entry: either First generation, meaning neither parent graduated with a bachelor's degree from college; or Low Income, indicated as 150% of the Federal poverty level for an individual or a family; or Disabled, referring to a physical or mental disability as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Students must also have an academic need in order to be selected.
Applications for the Student Support Services program are available throughout the year on the Natchitoches Campus in 243 Kyser Hall, or by calling (318) 357-5901. For applications to SSS at the College of Nursing campus in Shreveport, contact Patti Richter in the Nursing Education Building, Room LC 133 on the Shreveport campus, or call (318) 677-3063.
