Frances Welch, M.A., Director/Instructor

Mrs. Welch became Director of the SSS Project in May, 2014 after having served as a SSS Counselor and in 2008 she became the Assistant Director. She has held a variety of positions in both higher education and in other public and private roles. A native of Southern California, she holds a Bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and a Master's degree in Student Personnel Services from Northwestern State University.  She has served as a Counselor/Instructor on two different occasions in SSS before she was appointed as the Assistant Director. She is valued for her experience and expertise in working with students.  

Jamie Flanagan, M.Ed., Assistant Director/Advisor & Instructor

Mrs. Flanagan became the Assistant Director of the SSS Project in June, 2014 after having served as an Advisor/Instructor since August 2005.  She brings to SSS experience in financial aid, having worked as a Financial Aid officer at NSU for four years before moving to the SSS program.  She has also pioneered a Service Learning class for SSS students. She is a native of Colfax, Louisiana. She graduated from Northwestern State University twice with her Bachelor's degree  and Master's degree in Adult & Continuing Education.  She has served as a board and committee member for the Louisiana Association of Student Assistance Programs and participated in the Emerging Leaders' Institute (ELI) of the Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs (SWASAP).  Jamie also serves on various community boards in Natchitoches.   

LaMario Fortson, M.A., Advisor/Instructor 

Mr. Fortson joined the team in May, 2019 and serves as an Advisor/Instructor.  Mr. LaMario brings a wealth of knowledge and perspective in serving students from his previous employment, graduate assistantships, and internships at Northwestern State University, as well as his work with the City of Natchitoches Summer programming camps.  A raised in Haughton Lousiana, LaMario graduated from Northwestern State University with a bachelor's degrees in History with a concentration in Social Science. He also received an M.A. in Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) from NSU. Mr. Fortson teaches two TRiO SSS courses: Academic Study Skills (ACSK 1010) and Critical Thinking and Problem Solving (ACSK 1020). Mr. LaMario is the advisor for the NSU Recognized Student Organization, Helping Hands, and Coordinator for the TRiO Fit Health Initiative. 

Terri Marshall, M.Ed., Advisor/Instructor

Mrs. Marshall joined the TRiO SSS project team in August, 2016 and serves as an Advisor/Instructor.  She brings a wealth of knowledge in Nonprofit Management and Human Resources to the NSU community.  She is a native of Texas, where she lived in Austin and Dallas before moving to Louisiana.  She graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos with a bachelor's degree in Business Management and University of Texas at Austin with a Master of Education degree.  Mrs. Marshall teaches two TRiO SSS courses: Academic Study Skills (ACSK 1010) and Educational & Vocational Guidance (OR 1030). Mrs. Marshall is an avid sports enthusiast and during her off time you can probably catch her in bleachers cheering on the Demons and local high school teams!

LaTonia Mims, Administrative Coordinator III

Mrs. Mims joined the SSS project team in October 2019 where she serves as the Adminsitrative Coordinator III. She brings knowledge and experience in office management and operations,
