The Student Support Services Staff

Frances Welch, M.A., Director/Instructor

Mrs. Welch became Director of the SSS Project in May, 2014 after having served as a SSS Counselor and in 2008 she became the Assistant Director. She has held a variety of positions in both higher education and in other public and private roles. A native of Southern California, she holds a Bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College and a Master's degree in Student Personnel Services from Northwestern State University.  She has served as a Counselor/Instructor on two different occasions in SSS before she was appointed as the Assistant Director. She is valued for her experience and expertise in working with students.  

Jamie Flanagan, M.Ed., Assistant Director/Advisor & Instructor

Mrs. Flanagan became the Assistant Director of the SSS Project in June, 2014 after having served as an Advisor/Instructor since August 2005.  She brings to SSS experience in financial aid, having worked as a Financial Aid officer at NSU for four years before moving to the SSS program.  She has also pioneered a Service Learning class for SSS students. She is a native of Colfax, Louisiana. She graduated from Northwestern State University twice with her Bachelor's degree  and Master's degree in Adult & Continuing Education.  She has served as a board and committee member for the Louisiana Association of Student Assistance Programs and participated in the Emerging Leaders' Institute (ELI) of the Southwest Association of Student Assistance Programs (SWASAP).  Jamie is the advisor for the NSU Recognized Student Organization, Helping Hands and serves on various community boards in Natchitoches.   

Travis Batiste, M.A., Advisor/Instructor 

Mr. Batiste joined the SSS project team in July, 2017 where he serves as an Advisor/Instructor.  Travis brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in serving students from his previous employment, graduate assistantships, and internships at Northwestern, as well as experience managing programs and grants with the Boys & Girls Club of El Camino Real and educating students in Natchitoches Parish schools.  A native of Natchitoches, Travis graduated from Northwestern State University with his bachelor's degrees in English and Liberal Arts and a minor in Spanish. He also recieved an M.A. in Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE) from NSU. Mr. Batiste teaches both ACSK 1010, Academic Skills, and ACSK 1020, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving.

Terri Marshall, M.Ed., Advisor/Instructor

Mrs. Marshall joined the SSS project team in August, 2016 where she serves as an Advisor/Instructor.  She brings a wealth of knowledge in Nonprofit Management and Human Resources to the NSU community.  She is a native of Texas, where she lived in Austin and Dallas before moving to Louisiana.  She graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos with her bachelor's degree in Business Management and University of Texas at Austin with her Master of Education degree.  Mrs. Marshall teaches ACSK1010, Academic Skills, and OR1030, Educational & Vocational Guidance. Mrs. Marshall is an avid sports entusiast and during her off time you can probably catch her in bleachers cheering on the Demons and local High School teams!


Katherine Lee, MS, LPC, LAC. Counselor/Instructor CONSAH

Mrs. Lee received her Masters of Science in Counselor Education from the University of Louisiana in 2012 and became both a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Addiction Counselor in2016. Mrs. Lee began her career as an intern in the counseling and testing center at ULL where she developed a passion for workiing with and advocating for university students. Post-gradutation, Mrs. Lee worked for the Department of Children and Family Services as a Social Service Analyst until the birth of her son. Upon returing to the workforce, Mrs. Lee served as a Counselor and Program Director for several abuse facilities. As fulfilling and rewarding a career in the substance abuse field was, Mrs. Lee remained adamant about working with university students and joined Student Support Services and the College of Nursing and School of Allied Health in July of 2017. Mrs. Lee also serves as a Confidential Advisor to the Title IX program, is a LGBTQ+ ally, and a certified QPR Gatekeeper Instructor for Suicide Prevention. 


Ashlee Grayson, Administrative Coordinator III

Mrs. grayson joined the SSS project team in October, 2017 where she serves as the Adminsitrative Coordinator III. She brings knowledge and experience in office management and operations, as well as univeristy prolicy and procedures. A native of Pineville, Louisiana, Ashlee graduated from Northwestern State University with a Bachelor's degee in Health and Exercise Science. She is also an alum of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. 

 

Ciara Richardson, Graduate Assistant/Tutor Coordinator 

Ciara received her Bachelor of Art degree in Physchology from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2016. Currently, Ciara is in her last year of the Clinical Psychology Masters program at Northwestern State Univerity. She became the Graduate Assistant/ Tutor Coordinator for Student Support Services in August 2017. After graduation, Ciara would like to pursue a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology..
